About This Style
What These Profiles Represent
Comite Champagne describes Champagne as a French wine-growing area about 90 miles east of Paris, with the appellation production zone set by legislation enacted in 1927 and covering about 34,300 hectares and 319 villages or crus.
Recognition of the Champagne AOC came in 1936, after producer efforts in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to protect the name. Official Comite Champagne materials also identify current AOC provisions such as second fermentation in the bottle and minimum cellar aging for non-vintage and vintage wines.
Production geography on this DUI Professional page is based on producer information for the profiles, not on consumer popularity. The records map to France and the Champagne region, with specific production-place information for Reims, Epernay, Ay, and Chouilly where supplied.
The database average is a screening summary only. For BAC work, use the selected Champagne record, measured pour volume, and product ABV from the underlying drink record.
